Ka Hale (The Home)

An Original Web Series Written & Directed By Anthony Ezell

In the spring semester of 2023, I enrolled in, “Advanced Web Series”, where I got the oppurtunity to write, direct, and shoot my own two eposodic series.

When creating the story, I was inspired by events that have happened in my life. Being born and raised on O’ahu, Hawai’i gave me such a profound appreciation for where I come from. I moved to Texas in the Fall of 2018, which is what the story is based off of. Being Half Caucasian and Half Filipino, I wanted the story to center around what it is like being mixed race. And the kind of experiences that people of mixed race go through on a daily basis. I thought that “Ka Hale”, meaning “The Home”, in Hawaiian, is a title that would perfectly encapsulate this story.

Synopsis: A boy born and raised in Honolulu, Hawai’i, abruptly and unexpectedly is forced to move to San Antonio, Texas. He experiences the multitude of stereotypes surrounding where he is from, resulting in a newfound appreciation for his heritage, and the place he calls home.
